Course Description – Blended Paediatric + Outdoor First Aid

This course is suitable for learners working in an outdoor environment who are required to undertake the role of a paediatric first aider in the workplace.

The e-learning module enables you to do part of your course online before attending a practical session in the classroom

It meets all EYFS/Ofsted requirements as well as those of CSSIW and Scottish Early Years.

Our online module appeals to all learning styles with interactive quizzes, video and audio features

It allows you to work at your own pace, testing your knowledge as you progress through the course

Duration: Approximately 6-7 hours

Course Aim: To provide learners with the first aid knowledge required to manage an emergency situation effectively with the aim of preventing situations from becoming worse and maintaining life until help arrives.

Access: This course can be completed on any PC or mobile device. Log in and out on multiple devices with course progress saved automatically.

Assessment: Self-checks after each section plus an end-of-course multiple-choice assessment

Certification: On successful completion of the multiple-choice assessment, learners can download a certificate as evidence that they have completed and passed the online module of the Blended Paediatric + Outdoor First Aid course

Accreditation: This course is approved by the FAIB (First Aid Industry Body) and a number of Awarding Organisations.

This course gives learners the knowledge to:

  • Assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take
  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Help a baby or child who is having a seizure
  • Help a baby or child who is choking
  • Help a baby or child who is bleeding
  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock)
  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • Help a baby or child who has had an electric shock
  • Help a baby or child who has burns or scalds
  • Help a baby or child who has a suspected fracture
  • Help a baby or child with head, neck, or back injuries
  • Help a baby or child who is suspected of being poisoned
  • Help a baby or child with a foreign body in eyes, ears or nose
  • Help a baby or child with an eye injury
  • Help a baby or child with a bite or sting
  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
  • Help a baby or child having: a diabetic emergency; an asthma attack; an allergic reaction; meningitis; and/or febrile convulsions
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider (including appropriate contents of a first aid box and the need for recording accidents and incidents)
  • Manage emergency outdoor equipment and shelters
  • Manage extremes of Temperature including hypothermia, frostbite, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and dehydration
  • Recognise and treat poisoning including blue-green algae, giant hogweed Weil’s Disease, Cryptosporidiosis, E.coli 0157
  • Recognise and treat animal and insect bites and stings (including ticks and Lyme Disease, jellyfish, sea urchins, and snakes
